TO: Students, Employees
SUBJECT: COVID-19 Update

Dear Upper Iowa University Community,

Your health and safety continue to be our top priority here at Upper Iowa University. A planning team continues to monitor the situation, actively coordinate with public health officials, and proactively develop plans should a COVID-19 case be confirmed among one of our populations. Separately, our emergency operations team has a section within the University’s emergency operations plan specific to health-related emergencies and are prepared to support a response should one be needed.

There is a lot you can do to control the spread of this virus. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that you frequently wash your hands the right way and also do these other things to stop the spread of the new coronavirus and other viruses: Avoid close contact with people who are sick; cover your cough/sneeze, ideally with a tissue; avoid touching your face; clean/disinfect surfaces regularly; and stay home when you are sick. If you are traveling, it is recommended that you keep a daily log of your location so you can recall where you were on specific days should that be needed in relation to health-related inquiries. Our University Facilities team is also undertaking a number of precautions at the residential campus to help keep our students, faculty and staff safe, including a deep cleaning of Fayette Campus this week and ongoing increased use of disinfectant.

For a reminder on actions you can take to protect yourself from getting sick and for a number of information resources (local departments of health services, CDC, WHO), visit https://uiu.edu/coronavirus/. You can also find this page by going to uiu.edu and clicking on Emergency Preparedness at the bottom of the page.

We will continue to communicate with the UIU community as more information becomes available.  If you have questions, please contact Student Life (563-425-5215, [email protected]) if a student and Human Resources (563-425-5990, [email protected]) if an employee.

Thank you,

Bill
