SUBJECT: President’s Communication – COVID-19 Travel Outside of Iowa Update

Dear UIU Community,

The purpose of this message is to relay recent communication from Iowa governor Kim Reynolds, and the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the impact on Upper Iowa University.

Per March 21, 2020 guidance from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Public Health, any Iowa resident who has traveled on an overnight trip outside of Iowa within the last 14 days should immediately self-isolate. The duration of this self-isolation should be 14 days from the individual’s date of return. For example, if an individual engaged in overnight travel outside of Iowa and returned on March 15, the individual should remain in self-isolation until March 29.

In consideration of this guidance, UIU employees residing and/or working at an Iowa location should not report to work at a UIU location if they have traveled and overnighted outside of the State of Iowa within the last 14 days. Return to work can occur once the 14-day self-isolation has been completed AND the individual meets guidance previously provided regarding COVID-19 related symptoms or exposure. This would include no fever for at least 72 hours and at least 7 days since symptoms first appeared. A reminder that if you are experiencing symptoms such as a fever, dry cough or difficulty breathing you should contact your medical provider.

Employees who need to gather items in order to work from home during this period may do so, but should contact their supervisor first to make arrangements. All employees and students are reminded to continue to practice social distancing and follow hand washing best practices. Thank you for your attention to this guidance. We all have a responsibility to help slow the transmission of COVID-19.
