Upper Iowa University announced today that it has been named a Military Friendly® Silver School Award recipient in the private university, not offering a doctorate, category for 2021-22 by VIQTORY. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,200 schools participated in the survey.

“Upper Iowa University has a long and proud heritage of providing for the educational needs of the men and women who serve our country and we are honored to be recognized once again for these efforts,” UIU President William R. Duffy II said. “This honor is a reflection upon our commitment to offering accessible higher education and lifelong learning to fit the dynamic lifestyle of today’s veterans, military personnel and their families.”

A private, nonprofit university founded in 1857, UIU provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs to about 4,500 students at over 20 education locations, including military installations in Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. With more than 40 majors to choose from, UIU offers face-to-face, online and self-paced learning opportunities. All majors utilize a unique, flexible course schedule. Each academic year consists of five 8-week sessions and one accelerated 6-week summer session, so UIU students typically take less classes at a time.

“UIU’s commitment to our service members allows them the opportunity to fulfill their military duties without leaving any career objectives behind,” UIU director of military affairs Brandy Branstetter said. “Our faculty and staff work closely with each student to offer a personalized, affordable educational experience which can go with them wherever their military service may take them.”

For over a decade, UIU has successfully utilized tuition assistance at U.S. military locations in an effort to provide the nation’s service members an affordable Education Built for Life. To further assist the entire military family in achieving their academic and career goals, UIU offers the Military Family Grant. As part of the grant, the University’s $250 per credit hour tuition rate for undergraduate courses extends to the spouses and dependents of active duty, National Guard, and reserve servicemembers for all undergraduate classes.

A participating institution in the Principles of Excellence and Yellow Ribbon programs, UIU has been named a top Military-Friendly School or University by VIQTORY and Military Advanced Education on multiple occasions. Online undergraduate and master’s programs at Upper Iowa University have also been ranked among the best online programs for veterans and service members by U.S. News & World Report.

The Military Friendly® Schools survey is the longest-running most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military and veteran students. The 2021-22 list is more exclusive than ever, and covers institutions offering certificate programs to doctoral degrees. Military Friendly award recipients are published online at https://militaryfriendly.com.
