Upper Iowa University - Education Built for Life- Logo

FAYETTE, Iowa (April 15, 2019) – The 2018-19 Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery artists’ schedule concludes with a senior thesis exhibit featuring the works of Upper Iowa University (UIU) students Madelaine Quistgaard, Zach Lefebure, Teresa Hageman, Devin Havener. The exhibit opens Monday, April 22, with an artists’ reception scheduled from 4 – 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Bing-Davis Gallery in Fayette. The public exhibit will remain open during regular gallery hours through the University’s Saturday, May 4, commencement ceremonies.

“Each of these exhibits showcase the differing visions and strengths of each respective student,” said UIU associate professor of art Elissa Wenthe. “Visitors will be amazed at the thoughtful, engaging work that these students have created. I know the entire art department is extremely proud of how this group of seniors finished their academic art careers so very strong.”

Madelaine Quistgaard – Bloomington, Illinois
Quistgaard is working toward degrees in forensic science and art. Through her experiences in creative art pieces and in the forensic lab, Quistgaard induces a connection between art and forensics. These works advocate much detail in the most natural elements – giving light to the ordinary to make it extraordinary.

Zach Lefebure – Norway, Iowa
Lefebure transferred to Upper Iowa after receiving an Associate of Arts degree at Kirkwood Community College. During his time at Upper Iowa, Lefebure has photographed Peacock home sporting events and he interned with the UIU Sports Information Department. After becoming passionate about sports design this past academic year, he plans to pursue a career in the industry. Lefebure also intends to continue practicing photography.

Teresa Hageman – St. Lucas, Iowa
Hageman became interested in graphic design as a junior at Turkey Valley High School, before choosing to pursue the major at Upper Iowa University. Hageman has served as a work-study in the UIU Office of Communications and Marketing for the past three years, where she gained valuable experience creating promotional materials for UIU.  She is also a member of the UIU Art Club.

Devin Havener – Marion, Iowa
Havener is an aspiring artist studying art therapy. She attended Upper Iowa University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in art and psychology. Through her art, Havener is able to perceive the world as she wants to: colorful and vibrant. However, with every pleasure comes pain and the true reality of the darkness comes through in her works. Havener exhibits human emotion with the use of color and every color depicts a real, raw emotion associated with the content of the art. Accompanied by her poems, her work features difficult lifetime situations that through growth and experience is viewed as a source of inspiration.

Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery is located in Edgar Fine Arts Hall at Upper Iowa University’s Fayette Campus. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
