St. Bernard, Louisiana, Chamber of Commerce employees, members and their family members now benefit from a partnership with Upper Iowa University. As Corporate Advantage Partnership (CAP) program members, St. Bernard Chamber employees, members and their spouses and dependent children (under the age of 26) are eligible to receive set tuition grants for face-to-face evening classes taken at the UIU-New Orleans Center or any of Upper Iowa’s nonmilitary U.S. centers, as well as online and self-paced courses. The application fee is also waived for all participants.

“Upper Iowa University is extremely pleased that the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce has chosen to be one of our 50-plus CAP partners,” Vicki Melton, UIU-New Orleans Center director and St. Bernard Parish resident, said. “The Corporate Advantage Program is a prime example of how Upper Iowa University continuously pursues ways to helping learners of all ages achieve their educational dreams and career goals.”

“The St. Bernard Chamber is excited for the opportunities this partnership with Upper Iowa will provide for our members and their families,” Elizabeth Dauterive, St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce chief executive director, added.

UIU, a private, nonprofit university founded in 1857, strives to meet student needs with convenient daytime, evening and online classes. Upper Iowa’s unique academic year consists of classes offered during five 8-week sessions and one accelerated 6-week summer session. As a result of these more concentrated sessions, students usually take just two to three courses at a time to graduate on schedule. Many students blend their degree plan by taking in-person, online and hybrid (both face-to-face and online) courses.

Students get a jump on completion by easily transferring in up to 90 college credits from other schools. Up to 12 credits can also be transferred at the graduate level. Credits may also be earned through an individual’s work experience through an experiential learning portfolio or various college examinations.
